How we began.
Our organisation was founded by Gary Staniforth following his own personal experiences of what it is to be disadvantaged and vulnerable in a society where are people are stigmatised and voiceless.
After a series of traumatic events, beginning with the breakdown of his marriage Gary became homeless. His mental and physical health deteriorated, he lost his job and was unable to spend time with his children.
But, he began to challenge himself, channeling his energy into campaigning and creative writing, and sharing his story. He discovered his voice and encouraged others like him to do the same.
Piece by piece Gary rebuilt his self and his life, using his experiences to regain a purpose while championing the rights of ‘The Hidden Homeless’ and founding our organisation.
That was in 2008. Now, here in 2017, The Hidden Homeless has become Hidden Voices. We support those who’ve experienced poor mental health, people moving on from addictions, anyone dealing with low self-esteem and entrenched negative behaviours. Anyone who is trying to move forward.
We’re champions of positive change in the lives of vulnerable people. We provide training and activities to improve mental health, raise self-esteem and build confidence. We give our clients the power to regain control of their lives.
